In 2021, ASTCT received a donation from the Young Entrepreneurs Across America to benefit BMT and cell therapy research and advancement. The donation was raised through the organization’s annual Triathlon. ASTCT was chosen as the benefactor due to Sabrina Daniels, a senior at Michigan University who works with Young Entrepreneurs Across America. BMT and cell therapy research has had a positive impact on Sabrina’s family and she is grateful to give back to the field. Read her full story:

What is your age and grade in school?

I am a senior at Michigan State University.

Why did you choose to support ASTCT with your donation?

I chose to support ASTCT because of the impact it has on my life. My mother donated her marrow to her twin sister in 2005. Fortunately, my mother and aunt were perfect matches which significantly helped in making my aunt's transplant successful.

Why do you value transplantation and cellular therapy research?

I value transplantation and cellular therapy research because other people may not be as fortunate as my aunt to have a perfect match with a family member. Without this organization my aunt would not have had the life-saving technology and research necessary to help her go through this procedure and recover.

Do you have career aspirations in the science or medical field?

I do have career aspirations in the science/medical field. I am currently studying to become a registered nurse.

How did you get involved with Young Entrepreneurs Across America?

I got involved with Young Entrepreneurs Across America because they are a company that teaches entrepreneurial skills relevant to any career path. Even though I plan on going into the medical field, I wanted a job that can prepare me for any industry, through social skills, computer skills and problem solving. This job allowed me to obtain these skills and gain experience in a job setting different from what I am used to.

What is your advice to anyone wanting to support transplantation and cellular therapy patients?

My advice for anyone wanting to support transplantation and cellular therapy patients is to act on it. You never know what individuals are going through and by supporting and connecting with associations like ASTCT you can contribute to the enhancement of research, education and clinical practice.
